Community Programme

jacobs ladder

Through our Community strand we develop and support charities and community organisations to improve the quality of life for local people and to build stronger communities. Our approach to community development enables local individuals and groups to turn their ideas into reality, helping them to achieve extraordinary results.

We deliver in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations, charities, community & voluntary organisations working at grass roots level. We focus on local issues, including community safety, social inclusion, health, education, anti-social behaviour and gang culture etc.

Our product offer includes one-off sessions, fixed term courses and rolling programmes. Each can operate as a stand alone intervention or as an additional component, or energiser, to an existing programme, dependent on the specific needs of each partner organisation and client group.

If you would like to find out more about our community programme and how it can support your work please telephone 0300 123 1401 or e-mail info@challenge4change.org

Case Study

Blackpool Young People Services

In Blackpool we work on housing estate called Grange Park where we provide a holiday provision for children ranging from 8 to 17. this provision runs from 13.00hrs till 16.00hrs and on some days we can have up to 80 young people at the provision.

Many of the young people who attended the activity are from an area in Blackpool with high crime rates and a high rate of social deprivation. Some of the young people are at risk of entering the youth justice system and we are trying to introduce them to other activities. As a group many of the young people have never worked as a team and in some cases have self esteem issues and many lack any sort of motivation to challenge themselves. This activity gave these young people the opportunity to push themselves.

As a group these young people had no conception of working as a team. But we feel that C4C made the young people think about how they could work together to complete a particular task. In some cases some of the young people were scared of heights. The instructors encouraged them to try to face their fears and in most cases they managed to overcome these fears. This was done in a safe and none threatening way with the young people making the ultimate choices.

We feel that C4C has given some of these young people the opportunity to challenge themselves and work in a way that many of these young people would not have done before. Many of the young people who attended have given us some very positive feedback on the whole experience and would like to attend again at some point. I have passed on the feedback for C4C to other workers in our organisation and outlined the positive outcomes for the young people.

Thanks for all your help organising our recent visits to C4C. ALL the young people enjoyed the experience and the activities. I have passed on my recommendations to our service so hope fully they will be in touch to sort out some sessions. Thanks again for a great week, a lot of miles but well worth it.
